Rio was born with right sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia. His bowel, colon and part liver had herniated into his chest. It was found when I was 28 weeks pregnant and he was given a 30 percent chance of survival. He was born by emergency cesarean at Jessops hospital Sheffield and after 8 hours of stabilising him he was doing very well and was cleared to transfer to Sheffield children’s hospital. He had his repair surgery on day 2 by laparoscopy (key hole) we spend almost 6 weeks in hospital and he left without oxygen and fully breast feeding. He is now 6 months old and is doing remarkably well considering the difficult journey he had coming into this world.
