My baby girl Abigail was born prematurely at 29 weeks when I went into spontaneous labour. I had no idea she had a diaphragmatic hernia until I was informed shortly after birth. Abigail was on life support and passed away at 8 hours old as her lungs were not compatible with life. It was a shock going into premature labour but an even bigger shock with the diagnosis. As this was in 1996, there were no internet/social media and I had to research this condition in a library. I had never heard of this condition before and was informed by the paediatrician how rare this was and that Abigail’s was the worst he had seen in his career.
I loved her with all my heart and never in a million years expected this devastating outcome. The hospital took slides from her ovaries and said these would be used in research which I am in agreement with as anything that can be done to try and prevent this is for the best and just hope that one day there will be a cure.
To all the babies lost fly high and the struggling babies unfortunately born with CDH I wish you the very best and hope you successfully thrive xx
